North Wales Energy Advice Centre was set up in 2002 by West Wales Eco Centre (latter Ecocentre Wales), an environmental charity based in Pembrokeshire, to provide help and support to the public in reducing energy use and the resulting carbon emissions. The centre works with local authorities, often running grant schemes and installer referrals on their behalf and initially carried out the services in North Wales for the Energy Saving Trust until this was relocated to an all Wales centre in Cardiff.
In early 2013 the North Wales Energy Advice Centre became an independent social enterprise following the reorganisation of Ecocentre Wales to concentrate on work in its core locality. Since then North Wales Energy Advice Centre continues to offer the same range of services in North Wales, which includes the free and impartial advice line to provide help to the public on any energy related issues, from installing renewable technologies to helping reduce energy bills. The centre has developed unique software which analyses all aspects of energy use in the home, identifying and quantifying all savings opportunities. The centre works with community groups to train volunteers to become 'local energy champions' and provides a reporting facility for groups. Working with various funding bodies, the centre has carried out many reviews of community buildings to make them more efficient in use and reduce running costs.
